DW__Who is Jessica?
Hi, I’m Jessica from NYC. I grew up in China, and I think I had a questionable fashion sense growing up. There wasn't any social media back then, and very few places to look for inspiration. I wasn't really exposed to the creative world of fashion until I found blogs. Fashion blogs changed the way people dress and shop. It certainly changed me. I instantly fell in love with how personal and relatable blogs were.
I started blogging a month ago. My friends have been encouraging me to start a blog for a long time. It took me a while to muster the courage to pursue my passion. There's a lot of hesitations and fears, of course. It's only natural to feel that way when you are going after something that's really important to you. Blogs are very personal, and I am glad I am getting the chance to share a piece of myself with the world.
My blog is called NotJessFashion. It's where I chronicle my life. I love dressing up and of course, the blog centers on that. But since I also love traveling, exploring new places, and discovering hidden gems, there are lot of scenery featured on the blog as well. I'd like to think my blog serves as an escape from daily life, not just for me but for my readers too.
Fashion is a way for me to express myself. I don't confine myself to dressing one specific way. I love blending different influences together, and I love getting to know myself through fashion.
I would say the 90s. It was grungy, athletic-inspired, and androgynous. There were a lot of strong women in that decade, and it is an overlooked decade in my opinion.
I think it's great. Fashion is always changing, and bloggers definitely contribute to that. Every blogger has a definite background, different personality, different view on fashion, which makes fashion today even more interesting. Fashion bloggers are also more relatable since they usually mix high-end with high street brands, it makes their looks more accessible to readers.
I think that as long as people have something inside them to express there will be fashion blogs. I don't think that they will replace fashion magazines though. Not completely, since fashion magazines are on a lot more larger scale. It's not just about one person's opinion.
What is your greatest inspiration?
Nature, travel, and all things colorful.
Anyone embraces who they are and creatively expresses it through fashion is an icon.
I do not impose my idea of fashion on anyone else, but I guess I wouldn't mind if he dressed like Adam Gallagher.
Saint Laurent's “Janis” Mary Jane Pumps. They are timeless, a must-have in any wardrobe.
Chanel classic flap bag, Boyfriend Jeans, and a best friend to conquer the world with.
Hello, you have found the right person for the job. Aire Ancient Baths for relaxation, Narcissa for some farm to table amazing goodness, Queen of the Night for a bizarre and unforgetable dinner theater experience.
Experimental, expressive, edgy.
My go-to blog for inspiration is always Garypeppergirl. I'm also very loyal to Rumi from FashionToast. FashionToast was the first fashion blog I read, and boy was I hooked. Last but not least, I heard NotJessFashion is up and coming, so be sure to check it out. Wink Wink.
